PMK brushed alpaca/merino is a cobweb-thin fluffy yarn. You can substitute mohair with this yarn in many knitting patterns. The exceptionally fine baby alpaca fiber is suitable for sensitive skin and does not itch. Compared to mohair, brushed alpaca yarn is softer and has a higher thermal value. However, it does not have the sheen of mohair. The yarn has a matte finish, is fluffy, and airy.
When knitted with a single strand, the fabric becomes lace-like thin and translucent. Knitted this way, the yarn is suitable for ultra-light lace shawls and summer blouses. Recommended gauge is 22 sts = 10 cm, and needle recommendation is 4 mm (US 6).
Brushed alpaca yarn becomes remarkably versatile when knitted doubled stranded. The fabric gains volume, yet remains incredibly light. A loose, long-sleeved sweater weighs only 200 g! You can knit light long cardigans and wonderfully soft blouses from this yarn. Because the yarn is light and does not make you sweat, it is also very suitable for summer knits. The yarn is recommended to be knitted doubled stranded with a gauge of 18 sts = 10 cm (4"). Needle recommendation is 4.5-5 mm (US 7-8).
PMK brushed alpaca/merino is also an excellent match for PMK 100% alpaca DK yarn. When you knit these two yarns together, the fabric gets a hazy fluffy surface and the colors gain depth. This combination is especially suitable for winter knits and accessories.
Knitting patterns
When knitted with a double strand, PMK brushed alpaca/merino yarn is suitable for patterns like the Savu sweater or Välke vest. The gauge may become slightly denser, so please consider this when choosing a size.
Combine PMK brushed alpaca/merino and DK weight yarn and knit them together for the Katve sweater, Katve hood, or Höyry beanie.

Care
Hand wash in lukewarm water, 30°c, do not spin. Dry flat.
Alpaca wool is a naturally antibacterial fiber and repels dirt. Therefore, airing is often enough to clean the knitwear. The yarn tolerates washing well. Use wool detergent and let the knit soak in plenty of water. Please note that hot water and vigorous rubbing will felt the knit.
Country of manufacture
PMK brushed alpaca/merino is made in Peru.
Fair Trade -certified yarn's entire manufacturing process from fiber to yarn is based on responsible and ecological production. Alpaca wool comes to the Peruvian spinning mill from local small farms. Merino wool is Peruvian Highland Wool. Alpaca wool is certified with the RAS label (Responsible Alpaca Standard) and merino wool with the RWS label (Responsible Wool Standard). The labels guarantee animal welfare, ecological grazing, and registration of the wool's origin.
