Knitting Pattern

Välke is a classic knitted vest that can be used in many ways. This stylish knitting pattern is beginner-friendly because it is simple and the vest is surprisingly quick to knit. You can wear the vest over a shirt or just as a top during summer. The round neckline and appropriately small armholes ensure the vest remains flattering even without an underlayer. 

The vest is knitted in the round from the bottom up. At the armhole level, the front and back pieces are separated and worked flat. There are seams at the shoulders. The ribbing for the armholes and neckline is knitted with stitches picked up from the edges. 

The sample of the Välke vest is knitted using Novita Loisto mohair/alpaca sequin yarn. A similar vest can be made by holding PMK brushed alpaca/merino yarn double. If you’d like to add a bit of sparkle, you can include a thin sequin yarn (e.g. Dale Garn Bling). The sequin yarn can also be omitted, as it has little effect on the gauge.

If you want to knit a thick, cozy winter vest using this pattern, choose PMK alpaca/cotton or PMK alpaca/merino yarn. The yardage with these yarns is the same as with Novita Loisto yarn.

Measurements and Materials

Sizes: XS-S-M-L-XL-XXL-3XL-4XL, recommended ease 10-20 cm (4–7¾”)

• Bust circumference 96-104-112-120-128-136-144-152 cm (37¾–41–44–47¼–50½–53½–56¾–59¾”).
• Back length 54-57-59-61-63-65-67-69 cm (21¼–22½–23¼–24–24¾–25½–26½–27¼”) + 3 cm (1¼”) for neckline ribbing.
  

	PMK brushed alpaca/merino 55% baby alpaca + 21% merino wool + 24% polyamide, 50 g = 500 m (546 yds), knitted with double-stranded yarn, you need: 100-150-150-200-200-250-250-300 g or PMK alpaca/cotton 56% alpaca + 44% cotton, 100 g = 250 m (273 yds), knitted with single-stranded yarn, you need: 200-250-300-350-400-450-500-550 g
	5 mm (US 8) circular needles, 80 cm and 40 cm (32" and 16") and  5 mm (US 8) double-pointed needles or according to yarn and gauge.
	17-18 sts and 20 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4") in stockinette stitch with double-stranded yarn.
