PMK alpaca/merino is a Worsted weight yarn for sweaters, cardigans, and accessories. This yarn combines the best properties of alpaca and merino wool.
PMK alpaca/merino is a yarn made from high-quality natural fibers. Superfine alpaca is paired with premium merino wool. The yarn is breathable, warm, and soft. A small amount of polyamide has also been added to the blend. The polyamide reinforcement increases the yarn's durability, making garments knitted from this yarn long-lasting.
The cord-like structure makes the yarn elastic, pliable, and fluffy. This makes it particularly suitable for colorwork and cables. For a thick yarn, PMK alpaca/merino is exceptionally light. A 100g skein contains as much as 250m of yarn. The knitted surface has a rustic appearance, and the combination of different fibers creates a lightly melange color.
Knitting patterns
You can knit the Kaamos neck warmer, for example, from PMK alpaca/merino. One 100g skein of yarn is enough for this nice, small project. In addition, the yarn is suitable for patterns sold on the Piia Maria Design Ravelry account: Aamu and Niitty.
Care
Hand wash in lukewarm water, 30°C, do not spin. Dry flat.
Alpaca wool is naturally antibacterial and dirt-repellent. Knitwear rarely needs washing. Usually, airing or a light rinse is sufficient.
Use wool detergent when washing and let the garment soak in ample water. Note that hot water and vigorous rubbing will felt the knitwear.
Country of manufacture
PMK alpaca/merino is made in Peru.
The entire manufacturing process of this Fair Trade certified yarn, from fiber to yarn, is based on responsible and ecological production. The alpaca wool comes to the Peruvian spinning mill from local small farms. The merino wool is Peruvian Highland Wool. The alpaca wool is certified with the RAS (Responsible Alpaca Standard) label, and the merino wool with the RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) label. These labels guarantee animal welfare, ecological grazing, and registration of the wool's origin.
