Knitting pattern
The Katve hood, or more elegantly a balaclava, is a fun little accessory that works both as a head covering and a neck warmer.
The hood is worked seamlessly from the top down. First, the top band is knitted flat. The hood section is worked flat using stitches picked up along the edges of the top band. The shape of the hood is created with increases and decreases. The neck section is worked in the round.
When you knit the Katve hood together with the Katve sweater, you get a delightful hoodie set. The separate hood makes the garment wonderfully versatile. Of course, both pieces can also be worn on their own. The Katve sweater pattern is published separately.
Katve is knitted using PMK alpaca/cotton yarn. The alpaca fiber makes the yarn warm, breathable, and soft, while the cotton adds structure and lightness to the fabric. Suitable substitute yarns are worsted-weight blow wool type yarns with a yardage of 250 m (273 yd) / 100 g. Remember to check that your gauge is 17.5 stitches = 10 cm (4 in).
You can also knit the hood holding two strands together. Choose a DK-weight yarn for one strand and lace weight brushed alpaca or mohair yarn for the other strand.
